林国生（方中信）与赵宁（周海媚）在中越战争中，曾是一对出生入死，患难与共之爱侣，后因国生申请到港定居，二人终告分手。几年后，赵宁成为名震中外之舞蹈员，随团到香港演出，因而与国生重遇。时国生正与妻何美蓉（罗慧娟）感情破裂，正办理离婚手续，心情烦闷，而赵宁亦因与常大妈在国内之联营公司经济上出现问题而大感烦恼，生、宁互相倾诉一番。 赵宁因恐公司之问题回国后会受到审判，在国生之支持下，决逃亡往外国，身为车之保镖戴保（李国麟）虽一直暗恋宁，但基于工作关係，向赵宁展开追捕。另方面，常大妈为将罪过嫁祸予赵宁，派出杀手追杀赵宁灭口。国生与赵宁身陷险境，经过重重险阻，二人爱火重燃，并终能找到船隻逃离香港，但在上船时，戴保与杀手亦寻至……。Pierce Mundy works at his parents' South Central dry cleaners with no prospects for the future and his childhood buddies are in prison or dead.
